Dog Agility is the fastest growing dog sport in the country! Dogs and handlers must negotiate an obstacle course while racing against the clock. Agility is a great form of exercise for both dog and handler, and a fun way to bond. Choose the training level that’s right for you – if you are not sure, call us and we can help you find the right class.

Agility Foundations

This foundations class introduces dogs and their owners to the basic fundamentals of agility. You and your dog will learn; targeting skills that will help your dog move towards something and away from you; the fundamentals of teamwork; agility obstacles and groundwork for fun and fitness. Dogs will be introduced to low small, contact equipment that will help build confidence.

You will learn and practice:

  • Targeting skills
  • Obedience exercises; sit/stays, quick recalls, attention
  • Impulse control games
  • Reinforce food and toy drive
  • Teaching forward focus
  • Object related tricks i.e. Back-end awareness, plank work
  • Warm-up and cool down exercises
  • Reliable stay for start line
  • Low-level agility obstacles
  • Crate training

Prerequisites:

  • Puppy 2, Beginner Obedience, equivalent skills or instructor approval. Contact us if you are unsure.
  • The class meets for 6 consecutive weeks, 1 hour a week. (unless otherwise noted)
  • Class size is limited.

Intro to Agility: Obstacles and Weaves

This entry level agility class teaches you and your dog the foundation of weave pole training and contact obstacle performance. Dogs are introduced to full-sized contact obstacles using simple sequences to build confidence and team work. Dogs learn how to perform obstacles off both sides of handler’s body. We strive for off-leash control, which will build the foundation for future handling skills. 

You will learn and practice:

  • Dog walk
  • Teeter
  • A-Frame
  • Table
  • Weave poles

Intro to Agility: Jumps and Tunnels

In this entry level agility class, your dog learns how to perform jumps and tunnels that are both mentally and physically challenging. Dogs will be introduced to the different types of jumps and will learn how to work off both sides of the handler. Our objective for this class is to work off leash and practice more details of handling.

You will learn and practice:

  • Low level jumps
  • Winged jumps
  • Broad jump
  • Panels
  • Tire
  • Tunnel
  • Front cross/Rear cross

  • Agility Foundations, equivalent skills or instructor approval
  • The class meets for 6 consecutive weeks, 1 hour a week. (unless otherwise noted)

Intermediate Agility: Handling Skills and Course Work 

After completing our intro classes, you are ready to take things to the next level. Whether you are doing agility for fun or for competition, we’ll hone your handling and training skills to improve and to have fun! Students work on sequences, rather than full courses

Intermediate Level 1: (Drop-in class)

Short courses will help students’ perfect crosses and how to handle Novice-type courses. Students will reinforce their dog’s contact skills on each piece of equipment. Weave pole performance will come together to enable dog/handler teams to move seamlessly through a course. This is a structured class that is perfect for the student who just wants to keep having fun with their dog or for the student who is currently preparing to compete in agility trials. Off leash control is required.

Prerequisites:

  • Obstacles & Weaves and Jumps & Tunnels, equivalent skills or instructor approval
  • This is a drop-in class and meets once a week for 1 hour (unless otherwise noted)

Course fee: $265 for 6 classes

Intermediate Level 1 Class Schedule

Intermediate Level 2: (Drop-in class)

  • Agility Practice drills
  • More precise and solid obstacle performance
  • Handling and distance work

This class is designed to be repeated until the dog and handler team have reached the skills to join the Masters Agility class. In addition to refining the contact and weave skills, the emphasis of this class is handling. This is an ongoing class we focus on your level, not a syllabus. Off-leash control is required for this class.

Prerequisites:

  • Intermediate Agility Level 1, equivalent skills or instructor approval
  • This is a drop-in class and meets once a week for 1 hour (unless otherwise noted)

Course fee: $265 for 6 classes 

Intermediate Level 2 Class Schedule

Masters Level Drop-In

This class is an ongoing agility training program and is for teams that are at competition level. Focus will be on advanced drills and more complex coursework that will help fine tune your handling. Drills will comprise of common sequences, contact discrimination, front and rear crosses and challenging weave entries. Many sequences are those you have seen on an agility course and you will have an opportunity to try the drill using different handling options. Now the fun really begins!

Prerequisites for our Agility Classes:

  • Dogs should be 8 months of age or older, have attended a group class or equivalent skills for the appropriate class, or instructor approval.
  • Current vaccinations for the age must be provided by a veterinarian.
  • Most classes are limited to 6 dog/handler teams. Please check for availability.
  • Class must be prepaid to reserve your place.
  • Dogs must be dog and people friendly.
  • No aggressive dogs will be allowed in these classes.
